Ironic Comic |
In my 8th grade academic English class, we were working on the different kinds of irony. After some direct instruction, ensuring that all students had a handle on the main ideas, we created our own "Ironic Comics". The students worked in groups on Pixton.edu to create their own comic strips that featured an ironic twist. After the project, we read O. Henry's The Ransom of Red Chief.
The first image featuring two female characters is the example that I provided for the students. The second image featuring two male characters is student work.

Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (PATH)
PATH is an experience that helps people realize a lot about themselves. In this exercise, I visualized my wildest dreams and then devised a plan, with mini-goals, to reach them. This is an exercise that would be extremely helpful at any secondary level.

What I Am Good At Presentation
In this activity, I tasked my students with taking on the role of the teacher as they taught the class about an activity or a thing that they are good at. The students completed this entire activity in-class and had full autonomy in the project. This project helped the students to practice listening to their peers, speaking to their peers, and writing using on level conventions. All of the students had a lot of fun with this activity, and we all got to learn about each other. The image displayed to the left is a student presenting their presentation. I chose this image because they are not facing the camera.
